Her Name is Ellie

June 11, 2019 by Sondra Robinson in dogs

One of my missions with this page is to inspire people to bring more love & appreciation into their lives. One of the best ways I know to do this is to spend time with dogs. Dogs have always helped me get out of my head & into my heart, hence the dog paw heart on my logo. Some of my earliest memories involve dogs; real dogs, stuffed animals, dog cartoons.  I LOVE DOGS. Many of the best times in my life have been spent with dogs. Some of the most rewarding have been fostering medical needs puppies & dogs who would have been euthanized otherwise. Over the years my husband & I have fostered 55+ puppies & dogs. Some so young we had to bottle feed every 2-3 hours.

Our first litter had five 3 week old puppies. The smallest was not eating & really not interested in food. She was shunned by her siblings & when feeding time came there was little food left for her as she was too weak to overcome her siblings feeding frenzy. She was fading away. Because she reminded me so much of a puppy I had as a child I was determined she was not going to die on my watch. There is a special high calorie paste that was the final option. She was weak & no other food interested her. I put the paste in her mouth & for the first time she wanted more! I was elated!! She started coming around.  Soon she was gaining weight & able to hold her own at feeding time. She was adopted along with her siblings. However, she came back after 4 days due to being too much work & she has never left since. Our first, and only, foster failure.

Everyday thousands of dogs & puppies are euthanized in the US. Please spay or neuter. Adopt don’t shop. There are enough puppies & reputable breeders are few & far between. Foster if you can. Foster families are the backbone of rescues & rescues could not operate without them. Fostering saves lives. Period. Your heart & your love only expands with each foster.

Her name is Ellie.
She was a smelly
Little 1lb thing.
Left with her siblings
On a cold December morning,
In a box with no warning,
Of all the love inside.
She was weak and almost died
She didn’t want to eat but I tried
One last thing.
She made it!
Was adopted and returned.
Now she sleeps with me,
Comes running if I sneeze
Knowing I will never leave
Her side.
Our hearts are open wide.
