Shining Again

This poem was inspired by a writing workshop I recently attended at a local train depot. We were encouraged to write about a particular item that spoke to us. The antique train lanterns and their ability to act as harbingers of danger or beacons of smooth sailing called out to me. As a single flame can cast out the darkness so can a single truth teller dispel untruths and shed new light for those willing to listen...

There you go, shining again.
You being you -
It’s what you do;
Creating silent witnesses
All along the path
Never looking back.

There is no record,
None visible anyway,
Just an energetic imprint
Transmitted particle …..
Or is it wave?
Some say you are brave.

You being you
Just say,
“It’s my job
To shine the light
Where there is no sight
Casting doubt away.

You will know
When it’s your turn
To be a truth lantern
And burn
Lighting another’s way.”
