Are You Looking Where You Are Going?

April 08, 2019 by Sondra Robinson in boundaries, goals, resilience

Watch where you are going or you will go where you are looking. These were the instructions given to me and my classmates in our first motorcycle riding class. If riders were distracted and looked at the curb – they hit it, and sometimes dropped the bike. Riders who kept their eyes on the road stayed on the road and were accident free. I realized these instructions also applied in other areas of life. If we prioritize folding our laundry, wiping every dog nose print off the window and straightening the closet before we write or paint or draw we may have the cleanest house on the block but our book, painting or exhibit has just been delayed another day or week or year …..

Keep your eyes on the horizon
Not the periphery.
It’s that next step right in front of you
That will finally set you free,
Incrementally.

Tiny steps and giant leaps
Move you along your path;
One morning you wake up
And look a long way back.

The road that looked so winding
Is now a real straight line
Dedication and a lot of no’s
Brought you to the finish line.
